Holidays!

Merry Christmas folks!

It's been crazy lately, and yes yes, I know, the holidays do that. :p I didn't really update much besides school and well wishes in the last post, so here's a bit more festivity chatter.

At work, we did a cookie swap: my pizzelles were very well received, and I came home with an assortment of goodies. The last week of school was extra crazy, because we were trying to get the midyear assessments done on the K-1 students we see. It went well though, we got it done, and I'm really excited about the gains some of these kids have made! It's really encouraging.

My MiL threw a holiday party on Friday, and I took the opportunity to dress up a bit. :) My dear hubby noticed and complimented me (he'd gone over earlier to help set up) which was squee, cause that's always nice to hear. ^_^ I brought homemade eggnog with bourbon in it, which was very well received and highly complimented. It was fun. It was also windy as all get out. o_O Kept tryin to blow me off route, but obviously I got home fine.

Last night, we swapped a single gift on Christmas Eve. I decided to invoke the tradition because I was feeling a bit all over the map, being frustrated at not having the house done and some other things, and I wanted to see him open his surprise. :p He didn't think there was anything else; he'd picked out things that were on sale at Black Friday for his Christmas gifts. I picked up a James Bond gameboy game that can be played on the DS though, and he was surprised, which is yay! (My husband is hard to shop for when you want to both surprise him AND get him something he wants.) He gave me Lego Star Wars: Saga Edition for the Wii! YAAAAAAAAAAAAY! I have better luck with some of the wii games because it's not as bad on my hands as some other video game controllers, and I've been wanting Lego SW. Snoopydance time!

I've spent the last couple of weeks working on gifts and wrapping stuff and whatnot. I was 909% done two weeks ago, but I still have a few gifts for people I'm seeing next week that I'm not done with yet. >_> They'll be done though! ^_^ This morning, Tadhg gave me the Stardust dvd, and he got the games he'd picked out and the Pokemon toy set I got for him. (It HAD been a surprise, but I was a dork and he found out about it way early.) His parents gave me an amazon certificate, a little jewelry set, and a hot cocoa frother thing.

I have sooooo much to do today and tomorrow. Cleaning and packing.. at least I've started. :p Thursday we get into Atlanta, I'm not sure what's up Friday.. I'd like to see my sibs. Saturday we are going to visit my grandparents and my great grandmother and then nab my best friend on the way back to my folks' place for a little mini party. After that, who knows?

School News!

Everything's set! I'm enrolled in school. :) I'm taking Ancient Mesoamerican Civilizations, Native American/European Encounters, Victoria's Secrets: Sex, Society, and Change in the British Empire, and Middle Eastern Dance. My schedule's gonna be a bit crazy this semester. So that means...

Mondays and Wednesdays, I'm at work with my students til 2:30, and in class from 4:00-5:15.
Tuesdays, I'm in class from 2:30-5:30.
Thursday, I'm in class from 2:30-8:00. Not a typo, one of the classes meets once a week.
Fridays, I'm at work with my students til 2:30.

And all the time for reading and research and papers. T_T I'm gonna be hella busy, but I'm really excited. :) The Victorian Society course is the one I wanted that I was waitlisted on. I got an email from the department secretary that they'd added another section. I replied thanking her for telling me, but that I couldn't avail myself of it because it's when I have students of my own, and asked if this topic might be repeated within the next year or two? Unbeknownst to me, she emailed the department chair, who suggested I contact the professor. I did so, explaining that I really wanted to take the class, and she had them bump the number to let me in! I'm so excited. :D

And I'm getting a new backpack, w00t! My current one is a bit difficult to use with my chair because it is a tetch too wide.

Early December, waiting on news and planning holidays

It's December now, and the weather has decided to make this known. The roads were a bit nasty last night; I'm glad Tadhg was driving. If I had been going myself I think I would have called my in-laws and apologetically canceled going to dinner.

I'm awaiting word from IU on whether I've been accepted, how much of what I took in Georgia will transfer, and when I can register. SCAD took forever and a month to get my Rising Star transcript out. I've decided to go for a Bachelor of Arts in History, with a minor in International/European Studies. I'm nervous, but I'm really looking forward to it. I'm slowly getting things together, working on getting a space cleaned up so I'm not just doing my homework in the living room, etc. I have a list of classes that I've looked up and a few backups in case they fill up before I can get to them. Unfortunately, one that I am really interested in has already closed. :( It's full, with 8 people on the wait list.

Work is going fairly well. I think I am finally making headway with my second graders as to discipline and behavior, which means we can make swifter progress with the actual reading skills. Huzzah! This week they'll be working to earn their holiday pencils on friday.

On the medical front.. well, shoddy weather makes things hard. I have an appointment with my rheumatologist in about two weeks so we'll see what is up there. I'm still using my chair when I go out to the mall or am working at another school that requires going from class to class. Outside of that, it varies. I had a sinus infection for a while, followed by a nasty stomach bug, but am finally germ free. I hope.

I did the early Black Friday stuff, and was actually able to get most of what I was hunting for. My biggest savings item was a king sized featherbed at Kohl's. Normally they are $200, and I paid $45. *snoopydance!* It's made the bed much warmer and nicer. I also managed to net a couple of Tadhg and my favorite style of blanket, and found a lot of gifts for other people. I have a couple of projects I'm still finishing, and I think.. two gifts left to find. Then I just have to wrap stuff and get it in the mail! :) The only things I can't do -early- are the baked goods. Stale cookies, not so much..

If you want to get me something for Christmas/Yule (or my Birthday!) and do not know what to get, gift cards to Amazon.com are always welcome. I also have a wishlist with Amazon here. You can have them shipped to my address directly, and if you buy something using the button on the wishlist page, then it will remove it from the list so no one double-buys. (I can't see what has and hasn't been purchased during the holiday season, so don't worry about spoilers!) Our current address is in South Bend. If you have a different city listed, then you have the old address. Please reply to this post if you need the new one. :) Mawmaw, I sent you things that are not on that list because I know you don't do straight store shopping online.

Ok, now that I'm done being all commercial and stuff... I'm trying to get some schedules together so I can plan out who I can see when while we are in Atlanta. Tadhg won't be there as long as I am, because he has work over part of winter break. We are planning on going to visit my great-grandmother if we can get transportation up there by borrowing my parents' car or something. She gets tickled pink when we do, and Tadhg isn't able to get down to Georgia very often. Mom's going to try and get back to me later today about her schedule and what is going on. We aren't getting into Atlanta until the afternoon of Thursday the 27th, and he flies back out early morning on January 1st.
